Confcom Observatory on Cultural Experiences: Italians expand borders, not only art and museums

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – For Italians culture is no longer linked only to tradition and heritage, but also includes nature, science, creativity and food and wine. This is what emerges from the Observatory on the cultural experiences in Italy of Impresa Cultura Italia-Confcommercio, realized with SWG. Museums, historical sites and theatre shows remain the most associated experiences with culture, but in the perception of Italians also enter natural parks, scientific conferences, immersive exhibitions, creative workshops and food and wine. For 91% a cultural experience must convey knowledge and stimulate curiosity, for 89% generate emotions and for 88% put in contact with history and traditions, as well as enjoy. As for the Italian cultural identity, in the first place there is food and food, cited by 65% of the respondents. Following landscape and nature (50%), archaeological heritage (49%), art and artists (32%), fashion and design (24%). In the imagination of the Italians, therefore, the culture of the Country starts from the table, even before from art and heritage.

“The look of Italians on culture – says Carlo Fontana, President of Impresa Cultura Italia-Confcommercio – expands and confirms the centrality of the territory, with its communities, skills and enterprises. This is where culture takes shape and becomes an individual and collective heritage: the same UNESCO recognition of Italian cuisine is proof of this ability to experience. This evolution must now be translated into a unitary strategy, aimed at recomposing the expanded and interconnected chain of culture and equipping it with coherent resources and tools, so that it can fully express its potential. If the way citizens define and live culture becomes more personal and linked to the identity of the places, the policies with which we measure it, finance and make it accessible must also be adapted.”.
