Commercialists, Guadeloupe “The title belongs only to members of the register, stop to abuse”

MILAN (ITALPRESS) – A cry of alarm, but also a call to responsibility and correct information. The judiciary involving Daniele Moretti, currently under house arrest for fraud, reports to the center a question that directly affects the reputation and credibility of the profession: the misuse of the title of accountant by people who are not enrolled in the Albo. To intervene is Marcello Guadalupi, president of the Fondazione dei Commercialisti in Milan, who gathers and re-launches the position of the National Council of Accountants and Accounting Experts, intervened to specify that Moretti is not enrolled in the Albo and cannot therefore be qualified as belonging to the category. “We must make clarity once and for all – is the message of Guadalupi -. When we talk about the profession of accountant, we must refer exclusively to those who are regularly enrolled in the Albo, who work in compliance with the rules governing professional activity and observes the code of ethics. We cannot allow people outside our category to be professional, taking advantage of the lack of knowledge that users sometimes have differences between those who are enabled and who are not.”.

The point, emphasizes Guadeloupe, is not only formal. It is a matter of protection of the profession and of all those who, through years of study, preparation and updating, have acquired the necessary skills to exercise it in compliance with the rules. Registering in the Albo is not a bureaucratic detail, but an essential element of recognisability and guarantee, linked to professional requirements, obligations and rules of behavior. “It is our duty to defend the work and reputation of thousands of professionals who daily carry out their business with seriousness, competence and sense of responsibility. It is not right that an entire category suffers an image damage for events that concern people who, as stated by the National Council, do not belong to the profession.” Hence the call not to make confusion and to avoid generalizations. When a person involved in an investigation is defined as an accountant without verifying the actual registration of the Albo, the risk is that the news will end up projecting a shadow over an entire professional community, compromising a trusted relationship built over the years. Guadeloupe therefore recalls the responsibility of the information bodies, inviting them to verify the actual registration to the Albo before giving a person the title of accountant. An essential verification to ensure accuracy in the narrative of facts and respect for a regulated profession.

The question, in fact, is not only about the proper use of a qualification, but the value of the rules that distinguish the legitimate exercise of a profession from a simple self-distribution of the title. The precision of journalistic language thus becomes a concrete tool to avoid generalizations and preserve the credibility of professional institutions. “Who commits any unlawful persons must respond to the competent offices on the basis of individual investigations and responsibilities. It cannot be allowed that conduct attributed to individual subjects becomes an indiscriminate judgment on an entire category. Defending the profession means claiming that the facts are told with rigor, without ambiguity and without unjust overlaps,” concludes Guadeloupe. A clear stance, which reaffirms the need to distinguish clearly between those who are entitled to exercise the profession and those who do not belong to the Order. Because the reputation of a category is built over time, through competence and responsibility, and cannot be compromised by improper use of its name.
