ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Cdp, on the occasion of the 175 years since its birth, presented the book “Family and Savings – How the financial choices of Italians change”, a volume that analyzes the evolution of financial choices, distribution and management of the wealth of Italian families and highlights the role that the saving has played in the economic growth of the country in front of the new challenges, from demographics to security, comparing Italy with the rest of Europe.
The contents of the book, edited by a group of researchers of the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) coordinated by Luigi Guiso, professor at Einaudi Institute for Economics and Finance, with the preface of the president and Ad di Cassa Depositi e Prestiti were analyzed in a panel that saw the participation, besides Luigi Guiso, of Giovanna Nicodano, professor of Financial Economy at the University of Turin, and Luana.
“The Cassa has supported growth with a sense of duty and responsibility that permeates the people who work there. These 175 years have been a beautiful ride, in 2003 the transformation into Spa was fundamental to align Italy to other major European countries. This date has also been an important change because the structure has changed that today is a set of skills and roles that intend to be seen with the dynamism that must accompany the economy and society, with a different concept from static. Competence is what distinguishes our work for the country’s growth. We are great savings transformers thanks to the secular relationship with the Post Offices, but it is the concept of responsible employment that distinguishes the work of Cdp”, emphasized during his speech the president of Cdp, Giovanni Gorno Tempini.
“The book allows us to look into the savings and transformations of society. The data of 2025 are positive but reflect a framework of change, because savings are both families and businesses, but shows some inequalities. The value of this book – he added – is the scientific content to be a guide and a point of reflection for our work. It is a starting point to build data for the future.” For Gorno Tempini “we try not to act in the dark and one of the most important lights is research, so how to move to be ready to face the challenges of the future. The value of the research is fundamental to have a strong starting point.”.
In addition, the president stressed, “to celebrate the 175th anniversary we launch an initiative aimed at enhancing ideas and projects in the field of research, with the aim of selecting proposals capable of generating an impact on 4 themes that require a strategic vision: circular economy and sustainability, technological and digital innovation, employability and social inclusion, regeneration of the peripheries”, concluded Gorno Tempini.
Dario Scannapieco, Ad di Cdp, commented: “The 175 years of Cdp are the testimony of a story made of trust, innovation and responsibility, but above all they represent the starting point to continue to generate a positive impact on the economy and the territories, putting in the center of research, social innovation and value of people. Impact is not only a word, but a concrete commitment that translates into projects and financial instruments to support growth. With this vision, we look to the future with the ambition to transform challenges into opportunities and create lasting value in all geographies we operate in. Today is an opportunity to reflect on the challenges that await us. Future means investing in research and social innovation. This is why we invested with the Cdp Foundation in research and university education. We are convinced that the skills and skills of the new generations are the key to building a more competitive Italy. Our heritage of values accompanies us looking to the future, which means investing in social research and innovation. The talent and passion of imagining new solutions can generate a positive impact. The change is possible. The 175 are the thesis of a story made of confidence but also the starting point to generate new ideas.”.
On the occasion of the celebration of the 175 years, Cdp and the Cdp Foundation launched the initiative “Value for the Territory” to reward the best innovative and replicable proposals born in the university in order to generate a positive impact in four specific areas: circular economy and sustainability, technological and digital innovation, employability and social inclusion, regeneration of peripherals.

“This initiative has a great symbolic value. We have been questioned about how the future is built, so from here comes the project ‘Valore per il territorio’ because the value is born from people. We will do this with a competition aimed at universities that are already studying new solutions on topics that concern us every day. Beyond the call, what this initiative represents is the confidence of the Cassa in the talents of the Country, because ideas can attract and grow and with our initiative we trust in growth and talents,” Sofia concluded.
