MILAN (ITALPRESS) – To focus on incentives, technical skills and credit to transform energy efficiency projects and self-production from renewable sources into concrete investments, especially looking at SMEs. It is the goal of the meeting “New energy for the future. More value for the country. From energy cost challenges to solutions: incentives and credit to support companies”, promoted by the Energy Services Manager and Banco BPM at the headquarters of the banking institution in Milan. To integrate public and private resources.
The Minister for the Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, the managing director of Gse, Vinicio Mosè Vigilante, the managing director of Banco BPM, Giuseppe Castagna and the Vice-President of Confindustria with delegation to Energy, Aurelio Regina. The comparison centred on an integrated model in which the public support instruments and technical expertise of the Gse are combined with the financing capacity of the banking system. The aim is to accompany enterprises throughout the entire investment cycle: from consumption analysis and from the choice of interventions to the identification of the most appropriate incentive and financial solution, to the realization of the projects and to the measurement of energy and economic results.
“The cost of energy – said Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, Minister of the Environment and Energy Security – is a factor of competitiveness and we must put businesses in the best conditions to invest and plan. Making energy transition a development flywheel means creating a stable environment, promoting investment and speeding up the realization of new projects. The simplification action we have started and the strong growth of renewables demonstrate that the road is the right one. We must continue to strengthen the energy security and competitiveness of our production system, transforming the transition into a concrete opportunity for growth and value creation for the country.”.
Vinicio Mosè Vigilante, CEO of Gse, for his part, said: “The energy transition becomes growth when projects succeed in achieving realisation. The Gse supports the investments and strengthens its bankability, reducing the initial capital to be mobilized and making more predictable revenues; the banking system can translate these conditions into financial solutions consistent with the times and flows of investment”. “The collaboration started with the banking system stems from this complementarity: to make the incentives more accessible and understandable, to value in the credit ratings the results of the Gse instructors and to develop tools able to accompany the enterprises until the entry into operation of the plants”.
Giuseppe Castagna, CEO of Banco Bpm, observed: “The energy transition is a strategic priority for the competitiveness of the productive system and for the sustainable growth of the country. To address this challenge, investment, long-term vision and close collaboration between institutions, enterprises and the financial system are needed. In Banco Bpm we are committed to accompaniment of companies along this path, facilitating access to credit and providing specialist skills that can support them in real projects. The dialogue with the Gse stems from the conviction that the integration between public support instruments, technical know-how and finance can accelerate investments in energy efficiency and renewable sources, transforming sustainability into a factor of development, innovation and competitiveness for enterprises”. The availability of an incentive, alone, is not always enough to unlock an investment. Integrating specialist assistance, public measures and credit allows to reduce these barriers, improve the quality of interventions and strengthen its bankability. A significant role can also be played by the Power Purchase Agreements (PPA), long-term energy purchase contracts that offer companies greater visibility on costs and manufacturers greater predictability of revenues, favouring the financing of new renewable capacity.
Qualification of counterparties, guarantee instruments and application aggregation may expand accessibility, even for SMEs. The comparison continued with the round table “From vision to action: synergies, tools and solutions to accompany companies in the energy transition”, attended by Mattia Mastroianni, Head of Corporate Banco BPM; Vito Pastore, Director of External Relations and Strategic Programming of the Gse; Leonardo Giuseppe Marseglia, Founder and President of Marseglia Group; and Marco Ravazzolo, Director Policies Environment, Energy and Mobility of Confindustria.
