FIRENZE (ITALPRESS) – “The European Commission has presented a very ambitious budget proposal, which is worth EUR 2 000 billion”, but “the theme of resources will have to be verified in the next debate”. This is the executive vice-president of the European Commission for Coesion and Reforms, Raffaele Fitto, during the meeting with the presidents of the Region in the context of the Festival of Regions in progress today in Florence.
“You know that in the context of the debate with co-legislators there are different positions – added Fitto addressing the governors –. The theme of the financial dimension is linked to the discussion in the Council, where two proposals are discussed in a summary: on the one hand the so-called frugal countries, which stressed that they wanted to be defined not ‘frugali’ but modernizers of European policies; and on the other the so-called friends of cohesion and culture, that is traditional policies, which represent a very important and numerically superior part”.
He stressed that “the Irish Presidency’s proposal, beyond certain points of view on which it will be discussed, sums up between the two positions from the point of view of the financial reduction and does not affect, if not in very small part, the first chapter of the budget on cohesion and agriculture. We will see what will be the debate in the next steps.”.
