ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “Accidents and deaths at work are one of the most serious emergencies in our country. In this context, the study days that are taking place today offer the opportunity to examine the criticalities of the system and deepen the possible strategies of intervention. Every tragedy leaves a deep mark in families and communities, forever deprived of a part of itself. Too often, economic savings and operational rush prevail over the protection of people, especially in the most exposed sectors, where the fragmentation of contracts and subcontracts can jeopardize compliance with standards and a clear attribution of responsibilities.” Thus the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in a message sent to the general states on safety at work, read by the chairman of the Committee of Inquiry on working conditions in Italy Chiara Gribaudo.
“Contrasting these phenomena – he adds – requires rigorous controls, adequate training and a culture of widespread safety along the entire production chain, also enhancing the opportunities offered by new technologies. It is also necessary to take account of changes in the working world. Digitalization, artificial intelligence and new forms of use require attention to the psychosocial risks related to excessive loads, prolonged times and precariousness. According to the International Labour Organization, more than 840.000 people die every year in the world for health problems associated with these factors. A given she recalls how the protection should concern the person in his entirety. Security cannot be considered a cost to contain or formal fulfillment, but it must be the indispensable precondition for any choice on the work and dignity of persons,” the head of the State concludes.
