In July and August 2026 tourist flows in Italy generated a total expenditure of €20.4 billion

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – In July and August 2026 tourist flows in Italy would generate a total expenditure of 20,4 billion euros, of which 541 million can be traced exclusively to the increase in prices. This is the biggest expense that tourists would support, at the same holiday, compared to last summer’s list: 2,86 euro per night and 12,50 euro per stay, with an impact of 244,5 million in July and 296,3 million in August. This is what emerges from the estimates of the Demoskopika Institute.

On the side of the price dynamics, the national index of tourist prices for the whole community (Nict), developed by the Istat data research institute, recorded in July 2026 an increase of 2.6% on an annual basis: the lowest value of the last three years and less than 2.9% of the general index of consumer prices for the whole community (Nic).

However, slowing down is the rate of increase and not the level of prices, which in July 2026 are still higher than 2.6% compared to those of the same month of 2025 and are added to the increments of the previous years.

In the tourist basket increase above all the prices of national air transport (+6.2%) and of the services of accommodation (+4.0%); on the opposite side the air transport of passengers falls as a whole (5.6%), with international rates to 7.6%, and also decrease the national holiday packages (5.2%).

The higher spending per night reaches the highest values in Liguria (4.58 euros), Calabria (4.17) and Puglia (4.05), in front of 1,61 euros in Valle d’Aosta and Piemonte.
