Orcel “Su Commerzbank spaces for an agreement”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “UniCredit Unlocked in the first 5 years has transformed the bank and put back to pieces. In 2021 we made 1,5 billion profits, in 2025 10.6 billion. As they reminded me, in these years UniCredit has generated less value than Nvidia alone globally. Now with UniCredit Unlimited we want to earn market shares in all countries while maintaining efficiency and profitability.” Thus the managing director of Unicredit, Andrea Orcel, in an interview with Corriere della Sera.

“We intend to do this by leveraging the foundations set in recent years, continuing to invest in our people and platforms as well as accelerating the transformation of our operating machine using Ai and other advanced technologies,” he explains. “In five years you will no longer be able to separate the competition between fintech like Revolut, hyperscaler like Amazon and banks like ours. We have primary customers, we know how to manage complexity, we have people and channels, but we have to transform the machine and we will make it to forced stages by making them also pin on new technologies. Today the chances of beating new competitors have grown,” adds Orcel.

“Here is Commerzbank. De facto is a merger between two complementary German banks where Hvb has already proven to be able to reach a return on the capital of 23% with peak operational efficiency while Commerzbank and still far back; there is much value to create even before the big synergies. There is very little overlap of customers, in fact the German Antitrust gave us the ok immediately. This creates even more value to apply our project,” says the ad.

According to Orcel “because of disinformation on how we started, what we wanted and how much we could achieve we created a defence strategy using emotional feelings anti ‘aggressor’, but one day, soon, all this will be clarified. At this point it is best for all the parties involved to arrive at a positive understanding: we all want Commerz to go well. Although we are not yet confronted we will be able to respond positively to the government, all the concessions we were willing to make are still intact. From social impact, support for SMEs, financing the transformation of the German economy will be an agreement and there will be a surprise on how wide these areas of convergence will be,” he concludes.
