ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “This year the feast of 4 July acquires an exceptional significance for the United States of America, taking place the two hundred and fifty anniversary of independence. I would therefore like to address to the friend American people the most living happiness of the Italian Republic and my personal. Today’s celebration belongs to the history of the United States but has become a shared heritage of those who recognize themselves in the principles of freedom, democratic representation and universal protection of the rights of every man, also in seeking a dignified and happy life.” Thus the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in a message sent to the President of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump.
“By moving from these foundational ideals the Declaration of Independence of 1776 inspired the political and civil path of the United States, as of many other peoples on every continent,” adds the head of the state.
“Those noble demands – he observes – have been and remain, moreover, a point of reference of a vision of the relations between the States modeled on law, cooperation and support to the international institutions created in the removal of the tragedies of the last century. In a historic fringent marked by unprecedented challenges for humanity, it is essential that Washington and Rome, also in the hive of the Atlantic Alliance and through participation in the United Nations and other multilateral interests, continue to work together in favor of peace, security and prosperity for their respective peoples and the whole world. With these sentiments, Mr President, I renew my best wishes to all citizens of the United States of America for this historic anniversary,” concludes Mattarella.
