ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Cardinal Camillo Ruini died: he was 95. He was the vicar of the pontiff for the diocese of Rome and archprite of the papal basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano from 1991 to 2008. He was also president of the Italian Episcopal Conference and president of the Laziale Episcopal Conference.
“Cardinal Vicar Baldassare Reina, the Episcopal Council with the Diocese of Rome, grateful for the long and fruitful Christian life and for its service to the Church, entrusts Cardinal Camillo Ruini to the mercy of the Lord”. The diocese of Rome writes it in a note. “His pastoral guide, from 1991 to 2008, has left a deep mark of his intelligence in interpreting the presence of Christians in the city, joining you the responsibility of President of the Episcopal Conference of the Italian Church. Acute in discerning the political and social turns of the country, he considered it essential to guide cultural transitions with the Catholic pride of being depositaries of a heritage of values not to hide, but to guard and defend, fulfilling his episcopal motto Veritas liberabit nos”.
