Pope Leo XIV at Pompei: “Love performs miracles that go far beyond all effort and expectation”

POMPEI (ITALPRESS) – The visit to Campania of Pope Leo XIV began. On the day of the first anniversary of the election of Robert Francis Prevost a Pontiff there is a triple stop between Pompeii and Naples. The pontiff landed in a helicopter a few minutes before 9 in Pompeii where he was welcomed, among others, by the president of the Campania Region, Roberto Fico, the prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari and the mayor of Naples and the metropolitan city, Gaetano Manfredi.

Immediately after the arrival Leo began the day meeting the “Temple of Charity”, people coming from contexts of social discomfort that are welcomed in the different centers of the Sanctuary of Pompeii. Then the Mass begins while at 12 am the Supplication is scheduled on the day of the feast of the Blessed Virgin of the Holy Rosary of Pompeii. After lunch the Holy Father will depart by helicopter at the time of Naples with scheduled landing around 15.15 at Rotonda Diaz.

At 15:45 Leo will be in the Cathedral for the meeting with the Clergy and Consecrated Life at whose end he will leave for Piazza del Plebiscito where at 17,15 there will be greeting to the faithful. Soon after, the meeting with the city of Naples will officially start at 18.30 when the Pope will leave Piazza del Plebiscito. At 18.45 the arrival again at Rotonda Diaz to depart by helicopter returning to the Vatican.

“Here, in the temple of charity and the temple of faith, prayer, daily life, affection and service support each other. The generous commitment of many of the educational centers, in families, to the canteen for the poor entitled to Pope Francis and love performs miracles that go beyond all effort and expectation in the members of those who suffer and even more in souls. When St. Bartolo arrived for the first time in the valley of Pompeii, he found a land afflicted by so many misery, inhabited by a few peasants, very poor, fused by malaria and the Briganti he knew how to see, however, in all the face of Christ in the great and small and in particular of the orphans and in the children of the prisoners to whom he made with his tenderness the palpit of the heart of God”. Pope Leo XIV said this, speaking from the sanctuary of Pompeii.

“Dearly, this is a place of grace, where Our Lady of the Rosary and St. Bartolo gather men and women of all ages, origin and condition, to bring them to the only Source of that universal love that alone can give the world serenity and harmony: to bring them to God. Let us tighten to him, while we entrust to him, through the hands of Mary, all humanity, sure that, with the help of his grace, nothing can stop us in doing good and hope in a future of peace, here and everywhere, will have its fulfilment. Nothing will stop us in doing good and hope in a future of peace, here and everywhere, will have its fulfillment – the Pontiff added -. Thanks for what you do. Go ahead with generosity and trust. I assure you of my remembrance in prayer, I recommend you to the intercession of the Mother of Heaven and of St. Bartolo and I bless you all with heart”.

“Brothers and sisters, priests, religious and religious, spouses engaged in family homes, educators, volunteers, be this your program of life: to be men and women of prayer, to reflect, like dark and humble mirrors, the light that comes from God. So you will be able, with gestures and words, the flame of love that San Bartolo has lit and you will be, in service, in dialogue and in the life of faith, credible models and wise guides for this wonderful youth. To you children, boys and young people I recommend to have confidence in those who, with love, care for your growth, and even more to trust in Jesus – the Pope added -, the son of God, crucified and risen, who saves us and frees us, the friend who never abandons us or never rejects us. Let yourselves be involved and pushed by the joy that comes from his words and examples, our world needs it so much, and you, who know it well, can be, with your freshness, the most convincing witnesses”, said the Pontiff.
