Forum Cultura Roma: museums, archives and schools at the centre of city governance

On 20 May 2026 the Sala del Tempio di Vibia Sabina e Adriano, seat of the Chamber of Commerce of Rome, will host Forum Cultura Roma, a day of discussion dedicated to the role of cultural institutions in the capital. The event will take place from 9 to 18 and will bring together directors, scholars, economists and industry operators to discuss museums, archives, libraries and the relationship between culture, school and urban well-being.

The idea behind the conference is to bring to the centre of public debate the governance of the Roman cultural heritage, in particular in the historical center, observing it through three main axes: the system of archives and libraries, the model of the Civic Museums and the link between cultural policies and people’s well-being.

The day will open at 8.45 with the reception and registration of participants, scheduled until 9.20. At 9,30 institutional greetings will start. The President of the Chamber of Commerce of Rome Lorenzo Tagliavanti and the President of the Town Hall I Roma Centro Lorenza Bonaccorsi will speak. There was also a video recording of the Mayor of New York Zohran Mamdani. The mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri will be indicated as present in the street of definition.

From 10 to 10,30 will be introduced to the work, dedicated to cultural governance as public responsibility. It will follow a first confrontation with Dario Nardella, Member of the European Parliament “Culture and European policies: the role of cities in the common project”, and with Giulia Silvia Ghia, Councillor for Culture of the City Hall I Roma Centro “Rome Centre as a cultural laboratory: governance, community, future”.

The first session, The diagnosis of the system, will take place in the morning from 10.30 to 13 and will be dedicated to a critical reading of cultural institutions. The first panel, from 10.30 to 11.15 will cover archives and libraries and will address the theme of the fragmentation of the Roman system and the need for a unitary direction. Alberta Campitelli, Guido Guerzoni, Federica Pirani and Simona Cives will take part.

The second panel, from 11.15 to 12 will be dedicated to Civic Museums and possible forms of governance. Anne-Sophie de Gasquet, Alessandro Leon, Ilaria Miarelli Mariani, Roberto Vannata and Simone Silvi will participate.

From 12 to 12,45 will take place the part dedicated to the relationship between public and private in cultural production, with interventions by Pietro Abate, Riccardo Capecchi, Renata Sansone, Matteo Morbidi and Laura de Marco.

The second part of the event will resume at 14.15 with a new panel that will extend until 15.30. The comparison will focus on the models of collaboration between institutions, enterprises and cultural foundations. Among other Patrizia Asproni, Angelo Argento, Maria Isabella Barone, Franco Parasassi and Lucia Milazzotto will take part.

From 15.30 to 18 will take place the final session, The vision and the proposal. The first panel, from 15.30 to 16.15 will be dedicated to a new pact between culture and public responsibility for Rome. Contributions include Brad Hoylman Sigal, Maria Cristina Gribuadi, Cristiano Leone, Emanuela Veronelli and Stefano Karadjov.

The second panel, from 16.15 to 17 will be dedicated to the relationship between culture, schools and well-being. Adele Maresca, Antonino Raffone, Maria Antonietta Gulino and Maria Laura Sadolfo will intervene.
