Trade, in March increasing retail sales. Istat data

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – In March 2026 retail sales, compared to the previous month, are increasing both in value (+0.8%) and in volume (+0.7%). Similar positive trends are recorded for sales of food (+0.9% in value and +0.5% in volume) and for non-food goods (respectively +0.7% and +0.9%). It makes Istat known. In the first quarter of 2026, in conjunctural terms, retail sales see an increase in value (+0.6%) and in volume (+0.2%). Growth characterizes both sales of food (+0.9% in value and +0.1% in volume) and those of non-food goods (respectively +0.6% and +0.3%). On a curtain basis, in March 2026, retail sales recorded an increase of 3.7% in value and 2.1% in volume. Increase both sales of food (+4.3% in value and +1.5% in volume) and those of non-food goods (respectively +3.3% and +2.7%).

With regard to non-food goods, positive tendencies are recorded for almost all groups of products. The biggest increase concerns IT, telecommunication, telephony equipment (+8.6%) while the biggest decline is for footwear, leather and travel articles (-1.3%). Compared to March 2025, the value of retail sales is increasing for all distribution forms: the large distribution (+3.7%), businesses operating on small surfaces (+3.1%), sales outside stores (+3.4%) and, more significantly, electronic commerce (+11.2%).

Overall in the first quarter of the year there is a positive economic trend, more marked by the value of sales than is observed in volumes. In tendential terms, the value of retail sales increases for all distribution forms, with a particularly sustained growth for online commerce.”.
