ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “Republic and autonomous have accompanied the development of Italian democracy in recent decades.” Thus the president of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in Merano for the 80th anniversary of the autonomy of the Trentino Alto Adige Region. “The Italian Republic, since its rise, considered that enhancing the specificities of communities placed at the borders was an enrichment of the values of coexistence of our civilization. Condition that the European Union has been able to grow further, giving more and more thickness to our common culture,” he added.
“Cross-based cooperation is an additional key element between our two countries and a significant contribution to strengthening the Union. From both points of view, we can look with confidence at the ever closer collaboration between the frontier regions within the Euroregion Tyrol-Alto Adige/Südtirol-Trentino”, he said.
“The examples of ambitious and concrete collaboration, eighty years after the signing of the Paris Agreement, reaffirm the validity of the model developed in South Tyrol/Südtirol, its international exemplary and the value of autonomy for these territories,” he said. “A shared heritage, precious for our two countries and for Europe, to be safeguarded and promoted with constancy and determination, as demonstrated by the recent constitutional law with new rules on the Statute of autonomy. The Republic is grateful to the populations of these lands for the contribution they have given and provide to the progress of our country and the common European life,” he added.
“The two young republics – reborn with independence the Austrian one and established by the Italian referendum – wisely wanted to affirm, with the agreement, an opposite principle. The principle reiterated in the Italian Constitution: there is no ‘halogens’, foreign, at home. They are rights carved in art.3 of our Charter: ‘All citizens have equal dignity’ social and equal before the law, without distinction of sex, race, language, religion, political opinions, personal and social conditions,’ he concluded.
