Ursed “The new US duties concern us, Europe acts on reforms”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “The American consumer does not want to give up Made in Italy. The new measures, however, concern us for the consequences on the automotive industry, which also produces for German car manufacturers, which could be more impacted than announced. Much more because they have not yet been removed the ‘internal duties’ that persist in the EU, since the process of revision and simplification is too slow and far-reaching. The Industrial Accelerator Act must enter into force immediately, we cannot wait until 2028. The revision of the CO2 regulation must be radical and affirm without delay the technological neutrality, with use also to biofuels; the revision of the pervert system of the ETS must have an urgent lane and be made in tune with the revision of the CBAM. 2026 must be the year of reforms in Europe.” So the Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, in an interview with La Verità on the new duties placed by the President of the United States Donald Trump.

As for Chinese companies who say they are ready to buy European automobile plants in difficulty, Urso observes: “We are open to foreign investment, as long as they create development, production and employment in our country, especially in the new technological frontiers and therefore also in the wire of electric mobility. The government has demonstrated in these years, since the first exercise of the special powers of Golden Power on the Isab of Priolo, that it is able to use the instrument effectively, with prescribed methods to protect economic security”.

Finally, on the possibility of overcoming the bond of 3%, Urso Chiosa: “We have asked for the suspension of the Stability Pact and, in any case, to consider energy investments such as those of defence, because it is the first frontier for European security. Europe must act immediately in the field of reforms but also in the field of resources, with a ‘cassette of tools’ that allows states to react promptly to the emergency, which is likely to become worse in the coming days.”.
