Three people disguised as Amazon couriers broke into a Bronx apartment, threatened with a gun a 70-year-old man and his old mother and immobilized them with plastic straps. The robbers then fled by taking phones, credit cards and a small sum of money. The police have released suspect images, which have not yet been identified.
The robbery took place on Tuesday, November 3, around 11:15 am, in a residential building near the intersection of Bainbridge Avenue and East 199th Street, in the district of Bedford Park. According to the reconstruction of amNewYork, the three presented themselves at the door of the apartment wearing clothes similar to those used by Amazon employees for deliveries. Two of them had the characteristic vests of the company and carried packages with them.
The 70-year-old man opened the door thinking that his mother’s companion had arrived. The three instead took advantage of the opening to enter with force. One of the attackers pulled a gun and put it against the man, asking him to deliver the money he had in his house and, after immobilizing the elderly, others began to search for valuable objects in the rooms.
According to News 12 Bronx, the group consisted of two men and one woman. The New York Post, citing investigative sources, reported that the subtracted sum would be just $24.
The three left the building and walked north along Bainbridge Avenue. Surveillance cameras captured at least two of the suspects while still wearing Amazon vests. The police acquired the images and publicly spread them to ask for help in their identification. Both victims reported minor injuries and were assisted on the spot by the health care personnel after the robbery.
From NBC’s testimonies, there was also an element on which investigators could concentrate. Freddy Reyes, the building manager, told that he met at least two of the suspects the day before the robbery. According to Reyes, the two would refer to the exact number of the apartment before entering the elevator and then leave the building
It’s not the first time a robbery was reported in the Bronx by people pretending to be deliveries. In January 2025, two men showed up at the door of a Willis Avenue apartment claiming they had to deliver an envelope. When the owner, an 88-year-old man, opened, hit him in the head with a gun, immobilized and robbed. The episode was documented by the Bronx Times.
The case shows how a recognizable uniform and a package can be used to convince, especially the older ones, to open the door. The presence of a vest with the brand of a company, alone, does not guarantee that the wearer is actually in charge of a delivery. Before entering an unknown person, you can check through the application of the seller if a delivery is planned and, in the buildings that are equipped with it, it is advisable to use the video intercom without opening immediately.
The investigations are entrusted to the 52nd district of the New York Police Department. The police invite anyone with information about the three suspects to contact the number 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or send a report through the official portal Crime Stoppers. Reports can be made in a confidential form.
