Tobacco, FIT “Pieno support to the Government in the defense of a virtuous system”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – In these days the European Council is currently undergoing the latest negotiations between Member States for the definition of a common European position on the measures proposed by the Group of Experts of the Conference of Parties to the WHO Convention on the Control of Tobacco, in view of the imminent COP 11 session in Geneva. “It’s crucial hours for us – says Mario Antonelli, FIT National President – full of expectations and expectations for the whole sector, from the production chain to the distribution chain represented by our network of 50,000 tobacco companies, holders of as many family microenters occupying 150,000. The Italian Government has already expressed in the previous meetings of the Council a clear rejection of the dismantling of a legal sector that represents a virtuous model in the world, and the objective is to maintain the attitude assumed so far, in the face of proposals that go far beyond the indications of the WHO Convention and lend the legislative and regulatory authority national and European”. “We are at the side of the government in this game – continues Antonelli – confident that our institutional representatives will reiterate in Brussels the value of a system that offers practical and viable solutions to follow policies of containment and prevention of tobacco, without the need to destroy an entire economic sector that invests in sustainability and reduction of risk”.
