ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The president of the Lazio Region, Francesco Rocca, together with the general manager of the Umberto I Polyclinic, Fabrizio D’Alba, and the director of Sapienza, Antonella Polimeni, inaugurated today, at the Umberto I Polyclinic, at the IV Clinica Chirurgica, Department Emergenza Urgence, a new department of Intensive therapy to Alto Biocontenimento. A 20-bed structure realized with an investment of 3.7 million euros of PNNR funds. The new Intensive Therapy has been designed according to the highest standards of bio containment and will allow to safely manage both patients with infectious pathologies with high transmissibility and particularly fragile or immunocompromised patients, reducing the risk of assistance-related infections thanks to isolation systems, pressure control of environments and dedicated paths. The department, as mentioned, has 20 beds, of which eight single rooms with filter area, which allow a two-way isolation: protect the patient from the outside environment or, when necessary, protect the surrounding environment from the patient. The configuration also allows you to quickly manage both individual cases and any cohort insulation areas.
From the technological point of view, the structure is equipped with latest generation equipment and advanced monitoring systems able to assist patients with severe respiratory failure, extracorporeal support ECMO, cardiogenic shock, mechanical ventricular assistance, multi organ failure, continuous dialysis and hepatic purification systems. The entire department is supported by an integrated system of multiparametric telemetry and closed-circuit video surveillance that ensures continuous monitoring of patients. Particular attention was paid to the humanization of care. The bright and natural light environments have been designed to promote the well-being of patients, while the filter zones allow family-friendly access even in bio containment paths. The department completes a dedicated waiting room and a reserved interview room. The new Intensive Therapy can count on a multidisciplinary team consisting of eight anestheists present 24 hours a day, 50 element between nurses, physiotherapists, psychologists and specialists of the different disciplines of Polyclinic.
