Tajani “From closing Hormuz global shock, new mission only after the cessation of hostilities”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “We are not here to ask for a new military mission in the Strait of Hormuz, a commitment that can only be realized after the definitive cessation of hostilities.” Antonio Tajani, Vice-Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs, said this during the hearing in the foreign and defence chamber committees and the Foreign and Defense Committee of the Senate.

“At this moment it serves compactness, sense of responsibility, team play, is an appeal that I want to renew, even on this day. What is happening in the Strait of Hormuz cannot be reduced to a regional crisis, from which, as some would like, to stay away,” added Tajani “this is a global shock, a crisis that directly affects national security and the competitiveness of our production system”.

Minister Tajani explained that “the Hormuz Strait is a crucial hub for global trade routes, there are 20% of the world’s oil a quarter of the global export of natural gas, a significant part of the raw materials that also feed our productive supply chains the consequences of the crisis are in front of everyone’s eyes and the insecurity of commercial routes and regrowth of energy weigh on families and on enterprises.”.

“The stability of commercial routes is essential for our economy, in fact our export is worth 40 percent of GDP in 2025, despite the duties has grown of 3.3%, so the government intervened, immediately, with a first package of measures in support of the exporting companies. The blockade strikes everyone but especially concerns its consequences on the most fragile countries,” added Tajani “in Africa and the enlarged Mediterranean, from the narrow one, spends about 30% of the world’s exports of fertilizers essential for the food security of the most vulnerable countries, then there are energy revenues that cause the increase in production costs and increase inflation”.

“No one can turn on the other side on the crisis of Hormuz and the consequence of a broader conflict, the only way to go is that of diplomacy, a line that the government holds with conviction in every international forum. Today, Tehran cannot equip itself with nuclear weapons or missile systems capable of threatening the region,” added Tajani, “the Iranian regime continues to repress, with violence its young people calling for freedom and democracy, with capital executions. I would like to reiterate solidarity with the United Arab Emirates for the continuous attacks, even these days, which jeopardize the lives of so many innocent people.”.
