Tajani “Bene risiko italiano, no a tax on extra profits”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “Government and politics are limited to making rules, they must not be arbitrary but identify the mechanisms of control, in Italy and in Europe. It is therefore not for the executive to go into the field with the mesh of one of the parts. The word belongs to the authorities, not to politics.” In an interview with “Milano Finanza”, Antonio Tajani, Vicepremier and Foreign Minister, commented on the opas launched by Intesa Sanpaolo on Mps. “The initiatives of various origins to which we witness these days demonstrate that the Italian banking system is healthy, has passed the crisis of 2008 and the following years, has grown and has consolidated,” he explains. “We work to support the system as a whole to the real economy and growth.”.

On the Mps affair, “I think the government managed it very well. The banks, this is our principle, serve Italy and the world of economy, not parties or governments. Policy must dictate the rules and verify the efficiency of the mechanisms that control the banking system. It is then up to Consob, Agcm, Bce and Banca d’Italia to evaluate, not politics. Our goal as a government is that Italian savings are well managed and that comes to businesses and families.” On the proposal for further taxation for banks, “they already have an increased Ires. One has to act with balance and common sense,” explains Tajani.

With regard to Mps, Tajani excludes a Golden Power appeal. “I don’t think you’re going this way. Intesa Sanpaolo’s action, apparently, could give rise to the first or second Eurozone group by value. Then it will strengthen Mediobanca, which aims to assist large, medium and small enterprises. With an Italian stock base, which means attention to tricolor companies worldwide. As a foreign minister who has among his incompetences foreign trade I am pleased with it: export represents 40% of the Italian pil”.

On this issue, “in my Export Action Plan I identified as an export target 700 billion by the end of the legislation. This is our compass and continues to guide and motivate the work of the Italian System, with the full collaboration of the institutions and the world of enterprises”. And in the next manoeuvre, “we will bring to 60 thousand euros the threshold for tax reduction Irpef of our middle class and point to the detaxation of the tredicesime. We want to lower taxes also to young people, to increase their wages,” Tajani concludes.
