Stellantis joins AI4I and Chips-IT Foundation, official membership of Mimit

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Officialized at Palazzo Piacentini, in the presence of the Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, Stellantis’ membership in the Italian Institute of Artificial Intelligence (AI4I), the first national institute, born on the initiative of the government based in Turin, entirely dedicated to the application of AI to the real economy, and in the Chips-IT Foundation, the first national pole of industrial research and innovation on chips “The entry of Stellantis in AI4I and the Chips-IT Foundation strengthens the competitiveness of the production system and promotes the technological innovation of the automotive sector. This is a clear signal, because the strengthening of the country’s capabilities in artificial intelligence and semiconductors is a priority for industrial policy. The virtuous collaboration between the public and private thus becomes a strategic lever to accelerate research and development and consolidate the Italian and European technological sovereignty,” said Minister Urso.

The event was attended by the COO of Stellantis for Enlarged Europe and European Brands, Emanuele Cappellano, the president of AI4I, Fabio Pammolli, the president of the Chips-IT Foundation, Alberto Sangiovanni-Vincentelli, and Guglielmo Caviasso, director of the CRF Research Centre of Stellantis. The agreement is part of the Italian Action Plan agreed on 17 December 2024 between the automotive group and the Mimit, at the end of the dedicated table, and represents a new step in the collaboration between the public and private on the front of research and technological development. “The synergy between industry, universities and research centres is essential to build a solid and competitive national innovation ecosystem, infrastructure, human capital and advanced research. This is why we decided to join these highly qualified research realities as an integral part of our Italian Commitment Plan,” said Chaplain, adding that “I am sure that thanks to the collaboration with AI4I and Chips-IT we will further strengthen Stellantis’ leadership in technological innovation and together we will be able to enhance even more the expertise of our country’s scientific and productive community, to the benefit of all our customers.”.

“AI4I – Pammolli has specified – is proposed as a national and international hub of research, innovation and technological transfer, able to attract young talents and scientific leaders, create AI tools and services for enterprises, support the birth of new entrepreneurial initiatives and contribute to the technological sovereignty Italian and European”. “Fondazione Chips-IT intends to strengthen the position of Italy and Europe in a sector that is now fundamental for digital transformation and industrial competitiveness. We are growing rapidly: today we have more than forty employees and count to arrive at about 100 by the end of 2026. Three research lines are active, to which two more will be added in the next few months, all united by concrete applications, ranging from telecommunications to energy production, from biomedical to radar systems”, said Sangiovanni-Vincentelli.
