The goals achieved in the last century are not discounted: they are the fruit of vision and investments that have changed our history.” This is what Pietro Salini, CEO of Webuild, said on the occasion of the Public Assembly of Federacciai held in Bergamo. In this synergy, Webuild is one of the largest steel buyers in Italy, directly supporting the production and employment of the industry. In the only three years 2023-2025, the Group exceeded 800 million euro of steel purchases in Italy.“The infrastructures are the growth engine of GDP and employment in all related sectors, but to release this potential serves a solid and competitive Italian industry globally,” continued Salini. “We need simpler rules, realistic goals and an industrial vision that supports our production system in the face of foreign overcapacity, especially Chinese. It also serves that the large Italian companies together with their subsidiaries collaborate synergistically to really make the Country System,” continued Salini. “Infrastructures are now essential instruments of economic policy and industrial geopolitics. We cannot ignore the steel industry as a strategic sector. Supporting the supply chain – second in Europe for volumes and first for electric oven production – is essential to guarantee qualified employment and to ensure also to the next generations the welfare policies we enjoy today.”“The Italian steel, recognized for quality and durability, is the indispensable resource for the current infrastructure plan – the broadest since the second post-war period – and for the future. Steel is the leading element that ensures the safety and reliability of crucial works that redesign the mobility of the country even today – concluded Salini – as the new high-speed railway lines of the Third Valico dei Giovi, Verona-Padova, Napoli-Bari, Salerno-Reggio Calabria and as the high capacity Palermo-Catania-Messina”.
