Pizza da Campioni, five pizzas to celebrate Italian footballers who made history

It is useless, that both Italy or America, the first two things that come to mind when we think of something that can unite the Italian people are football and food – in this case, pizza!

It must have been the same two things that I Love Italian Food and the Columbus Citizen Foundation thought when they decided to launch Pizza da Campioni, the format designed to approach the 2026 World Cup, which will be played between the United States, Canada and Mexico, marking a return of the tournament on the North American soil thirty years after the 1994 edition,

During Pizza da Campioni, five pizza makers among the most renowned in New York will make as many pizzas dedicated to five protagonists of Italy’s victories at the 1982 World Cup in Spain and 2006 in Germany, two moments that still represent the main references of the recent sports history of the National. Those two competitions have contributed to consolidate the international imagination of Italian football, thanks also to the figures of Paolo Rossi, Fabio Cannavaro and Andrea Pirlo, become true symbols of Italianity even outside the sport.

Of course, the Italian National Team is going through a reconstruction phase even internationally after these two winning cycles, but Pizza da Campioni is also a way to value football in general, especially at a time when in the United States the movement is going to meet a significant growth for a decade, also thanks to the Major League Soccer and the arrival of European players.
