ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “Saving is a vital resource for families, for society that uses it to promote development. Protecting savings, as the Constitution prescribes, means guaranteeing the tools that employ it and remuneration that encourages a stable use of it. The foundations of banking origin have competed, in these decades, to make this constitutional function concrete: the results so achieved have contributed to the increase of the social capital of the country. Savings has public value, a value entrusted to a significant extent to the responsibility of banks and intermediaries. The Republic – of which we celebrate 80 years of life – wanted the Constitution to bind in Article 47 the savings to the discipline of credit“. Thus the president of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in a message sent to the president of the Association of Foundations and Casse di Risparmio, Giovanni Azzone. “New financial instruments have overlooked and, however, their operation is called to obey the same precepts, to protect families, enhancing the earnings of the work they manage to set aside, channeling savings towards safe and productive investments, much more significant in times when geo-economic and geo-political conflicts attack, with inflation and an inoperous wage dynamic, the living standards of citizens added. According to Mattarella, “a full European integration is also presented in this area, as the best defence tool against purely speculative finance. The obstacles to the single market on the one hand and the relative weakness of the long-term savings on the other side hijack elsewhere huge resources and brake investments that could, instead, make our societies stronger. These are passages in front of which the peoples of the European continent are found to safeguard and promote the values of their civilization.”.
