It entered in live in Savannah the mission of Liguria Region in Georgia (USA), in program from 23 to 25 September, with a first day dedicated to the portualità, the logistics and the prospects of development of the commercial exchanges between the two territories. The Ligurian delegation, led by the Head of Cabinet of the president of the Liguria Region Massimiliano Nannini, has visited the Georgia Ports Authority and the Garden City Terminal, meeting the representatives of the harbour authority and deepening the operation of the port of call, then continue the meetings to the World Trade Center Savannah. In 2025 the port of Savannah has enlivened 5,70 million TEU, among the highest results ever recorded from the port of call.
“It was a very fruitful visit, which allowed us to confront us with a dynamic and active reality, with which we believe can develop important synergies – says the Chief of Cabinet of the President of the Liguria Region, Admiral Massimiliano Nannini -. Liguria can become increasingly attractive in the coming years, starting from the harbour system and its strategic position as a gateway to South Europe, but also thanks to the infrastructure, high speed and digital infrastructure, starting from the submarine cables. We want to continue working to transform these potentials into concrete opportunities for collaboration.”.
“It was an important meeting between Georgia Ports and Ligurian ports, two systems protagonists of the commercial exchanges between Italy and the United States, connected by five regular services for container – emphasizes Alberto Pozzobon, marketing manager of the Authority of Harbour System of the Western Ligurian Sea -. Both aim to broaden the internal markets served through intermodality: Savannah strengthens its role as a gateway to the southern United States, while Genoa, Savona-Vado and La Spezia are proposed as a gateway to the Mediterranean and South Europe. This common ambition strengthens the opportunities for the development of relations between the two systems, also through cooperation to realize digital corridors able to make the flow of goods faster and more efficient”.

The second stage of the day took place at the World Trade Center Savannah, where the delegation met operators and representatives of the local economic system for a comparison on the opportunities for development of international trade and economic cooperation between Georgia and Liguria. The meeting was also an opportunity to present the Ligurian ecosystem of innovation and regional policies in support of innovative startups.
Maria Nives Riggio, deputy general manager of FILSE, illustrated the Ligurian system that networking universities, research centers, enterprises and institutions, as well as regional tools that accompany startups in the different stages of growth, from incubation to internationalization. In this path, the BIC of FILSE plays a role of connection between the policies of Liguria Region and the concrete needs of the enterprises. The meeting has laid the foundations for possible future collaborations between the two territories.
The mission continues today, Thursday 24 September, in Atlanta with institutional meetings at the Metro Atlanta Chamber and with representatives of the State of Georgia, also dedicated to the development of economic relations and investments, and the appointments dedicated to innovation, technology, research and collaboration between the entrepreneurial ecosystems of the two territories.
