The third and final day of the Liguria Region’s mission in Georgia (USA) ended in Atlanta, dedicated to comparing companies, professionals and realities of the economic and technological ecosystem of the city. At the center of the meetings, hosted in the spaces of the law firm Miller & Martin, the topics of logistics and new supply chains, artificial intelligence and automation, innovation and opportunities for collaboration between the Ligurian and US economic systems.
The delegation is led by the chief of Cabinet of the president of the Liguria Region, admiral Massimiliano Nannini, and includes representatives of Federlogistica, of the Authorities of Harbour System of the Ligurian Sea, of the University of Genoa, of Genoa Airport, of Agency in Liguria, of Liguria International and of FILSE. In Atlanta, two Ligurian companies, Cactus Holding and Firmamento Technologies, involved in meetings with Georgia’s economic and innovation system.
“We call this mission with a day that has allowed us to compare skills, enterprises and realities of our two territories on strategic issues such as logistics, artificial intelligence, innovation and new supply chains. It was important to create opportunities for direct dialogue and better know a dynamic ecosystem like that of Atlanta, linking our businesses and our expertise with international partners. Now we must give continuity to the contacts started in these days and turn them into concrete opportunities of collaboration, also through the work we have already begun to plan for 2027″, declares the head of Cabinet of the president of the Liguria Region, Admiral Massimiliano Nannini.
The day opened with the panel “The Future of Logistics: AI, Automation, and New Supply Chains”, dedicated to the evolution of logistics and the impact of new technologies on transport systems and supply chains. The comparison has brought together representatives of the entrepreneurial world and of the consulting, operators of the logistics and the transports, together with the main Liguria protagonists of the portualità and the airport system.
At the table they participated, among the others, representatives of Miller & Martin, Delta Air Lines, Logistics Reply and JAS, together with Federlogistica, to the Harbour System Authority of the Western Ligurian Sea and to the Airport of Genoa, favoring a direct comparison between skills and operators of the two territories.
“Atlanta and Georgia are a growing market with particularly interesting features for the Italian industrial system. Our goal will be to collect the needs of Italian entrepreneurs who want to open new markets in the United States through the port of Savannah and, at the same time, those of US operators interested in using Genoa as a gateway to the European market. From this comparison there emerge concrete conditions to start working together and create new opportunities for enterprises”, says the president of Federlogistica-Conf Trasporto, Davide Falteri.
“The value of these days between Savannah and Atlanta is above all in the quality of the contacts that we could develop, is directly linked to the business of the shipping and the portualità, it is more transversal, but still important to build new relations between Liguria, Georgia and the respective harbour systems. An added value was certainly to present us as a system, with institutions and operators able to represent together skills, services and opportunities of our territory. We have seen a strong interest in the role of our region and the Ports of Genoa as a gateway to the Italian and European economy. We count that the comparison initiated in these days can represent the beginning of a collaboration capable of translating, in time, in concrete opportunities and results for both realities”, emphasizes Alberto Pozzobon, marketing manager of the Authority of Harbour System of the Western Liguria Sea.
“For Genoa Airport it was an important opportunity to directly confront a great international operator like Delta Air Lines and verify the opportunities that can exist to develop new connections. We have long been working to strengthen the presence of Genoa on the North American market and the meeting of Atlanta has allowed us to present the potential of Liguria, not only from the tourist point of view but also for the connections with the economic and productive system. It is a journey that starts here and on which we will continue to work in the coming months”, comments the general manager of the Genoa Airport, Francesco D’Amico.
The second session of the morning, “Atlanta Innovation Gateway: Innovation, Experiences and Opportunities”, was dedicated to the Atlanta innovation ecosystem and business opportunities. The comparison involved companies and professionals active in manufacturing, consulting, technology and research, together with representatives of the University of Genoa and FILSE.
The meeting allowed us to bring together Italian and US business experiences and to deepen possible collaborations in the various areas of innovation, technology transfer and international development.
“The mission ends in the best way, after a comparison with Italian entrepreneurs who have chosen to develop their own presence here. We have seen great attention to innovation: for Ligurian startups Atlanta is therefore a strategic context, also thanks to the network of services and support available. There have been numerous common branches on which to work. From tomorrow we will be committed to consolidating the relations started these days, with the aim of transforming them into new opportunities for international development for our enterprises”, says the Deputy General Manager of FILSE, Maria Nives Riggio.
The final part of the morning was dedicated to the definition of the next activities and possible lines of collaboration, with the aim of transforming the contacts developed during the mission and the meetings started in Atlanta in new operational opportunities for the Liguria system. In this context, the visit to Liguria of a delegation of the State of Georgia is planned for 2027, in order to continue the confrontation initiated these days.
