Liguria looks in Atlanta for its startups

Among the contacts started during the mission of the Liguria Region in Georgia there are those that could help Ligurian startups find interlocutors and opportunities in the United States. It is one of the aspects on which Maria Nives Riggio, Deputy Director-General of FILSE S.p.A., is focusing, in its budget of meetings. After the stages between Savannah and Atlanta, dedicated to the portualità, the logistics and the innovation, the work will be to follow the relationships built with institutions, enterprises and American research centers.

“The meetings of these three days have made us understand, touching with hand, how many similarities, how many points in common have the Liguria Region and the State of Georgia, and the area of Atlanta in particular”, explains Riggio. “Obviously we are talking about two territorial dimensions completely different, but both characterized by some fundamental assets: the harbour system on one side and a strong, very strong propensity to innovation”.

These common interests, according to Riggio, offer a basis to continue the comparison. The collaborations to which they are working are of different dimensions, with particular attention to those born around new technologies and research activities. “This has allowed us to establish some relations with the main stakeholders we have met, in order to follow in the coming months to concrete collaborations for our enterprises: both for corporate and for small and medium enterprises, but also and especially for our startups”.

A part of the Delegation’s work has been dedicated to presenting innovative projects in Liguria to American interlocutors. “We came here by telling what happens in Liguria, in our ecosystem of innovation,” says Riggio. The story concerned startups and new ideas, “extremely linked to those that are our research centers, our innovation policies, technological districts”, and the opportunities that can derive from it “from the point of view of the exchanges of innovation and business”.

To Riggio, to make the comparison encouraging was also the way in which the interlocutors of Atlanta collaborate with each other and welcome new enterprises. It is on this availability that its confidence is based on the possibility of developing the relations initiated during the mission.

“We are confident that this will happen. The feeling we had was that this Atlanta system is very welcoming, both very integrated and cooperative,” he concludes. “And this will certainly make integration and business opportunities easy for our businesses too.”.
