PALERMO (ITALPRESS) – Educating solidarity to promote scientific research and patient care, making sure that the steps ahead in the fight against blood cancer are reached together. It is the goal of Ail Palermo-Trapani that tomorrow, at 16:30, on the occasion of the National Day against leukemias, lymphomas and myeloma, will present its own social budget 2025 in Villa Magnisi, home of the Order of Doctors of Palermo.
At the event, after the institutional greetings of the mayor Roberto Lagalla, of the president of the Order of doctors Salvatore Amato, of the Regional Manager Sicily of UniCredit Salvatore Malandrino, of the regional council member to the social policies Nuccia Albano and of the president of Ail Palermo-Trapani Pino Toro, will intervene the volunteers of the association together with the general directors of the Asp of Palermo and the hospital companies (Alberto Firenze, Maria Mazza.
The numbers of 2025 confirm the strong impact of the association on the territory: 359 volunteers, 6,224 active donors and more than 740 thousand euros collected between campaigns and 5×1000. Thanks to this network 896 nights of hospitality were offered in the Ail “Coccinella” and “Chiocciola” houses, guaranteed over 132 thousand kilometers of transfers for patients to care centers, and insured services of psycho-oncology for 424 patients. Financially, the financial year closed with a positive surplus of 124.821 euros on a total of 1,257.008 euros of revenue.
“The 2025 was for Ail Palermo-Trapani a year of commitment, growth and responsibility towards the people we accompany every day in the path of the disease – says President Pino Toro – In an even complex context, the association continued to be a reference point for oncoematologic patients, caregiver, volunteers, supporters and health workers, confirming its concrete proximity to the territory and its needs. Our mission remains the same: to make care accessible to all patients, regardless of economic, social or personal conditions. Because the right to health cannot know distances, barriers or solitudes”.
For the future the association relaunches with a new goal. “We decided to invest in a new project, a new challenge – says Pino Toro – to create a multifunctional centre in which patients in care or chronic can find free answers and psychological, nutritional and physiotherapy support. A meeting place for doctors and patients and, above all, a space where to create training moments for volunteers and caregiver. A place, a house, a listening point, where the entire hematological community of our city can find a place to gather. No finish line builds itself. To give strength to this dream we need alliances, shared responsibilities and a community that chooses to be there. Only together can we build more just, closer, more human answers”.
