Yesterday evening the Italian Institute of Culture of New York hosted the New York stage of Italian Veri «The Show», musical theatrical project conceived and interpreted by Arianna Bergamaschi, which explores the Italian identity through music, narrative and visual language.
Within the spaces of the Italian Institute of Culture in New York, the performance turned to an international audience, building a story of Italy suspended between traditions, daily habits, common places and cultural transformations. A dissemination and theatrical system together, designed to be accessible to those who are not familiar with the country.
On the Bergamaschi stage crosses these themes alternating musical moments and narrative. «I decided to create something that was related to my culture, something that somehow still kept me there, like this show». And adds: “It was a great challenge, because I had to write a show about Italy designed for Americans, also trying to take a little distance from Italianity”.
One of the central elements of the project is the change of perspective, the look on Italy filtered by an external observer. The result is a double reading level, between representation of the country and comparison with the American imagination.
Already presented in several North American cities, from Toronto to Chicago, to Los Angeles and Miami, the project arrived in New York in one of its most significant stages. A city built also by the history of Italian migrations and their cultural heritage.
On the stage, next to Bergamaschi, an American Italian band contributes to defining a hybrid stage, in which music, story and performance intertwine.
The evening ended with a long and warm standing ovation of the public, confirming the ability of the show to talk to different sensibilities and to transform the Italian identity into an accessible and shared form.
