Istat, production in October decreases by 0.3% annually

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – In October 2025 Istat estimates that the seasonal index of industrial production decreased by 1.0% compared to September. On the average of the quarter August-October the level of production decreases by 0.9% compared to the previous three months. The seasonal index increases on a monthly basis only for energy (+0.7%); While flexions are observed for consumer goods (-1.8%), instrumental goods (-1.0%) and intermediate goods (-0.3%). Net of the calendar effects, in October 2025 the general index decreased by 0.3% (the calendar working days were 23 as at October 2024).

There is a tendency increase only for intermediate goods (+1.1%); show a decline, instead, consumer goods (- 2.0%), instrumental goods (-0.7%) and energy (-0.2%). The sectors of economic activity that record the greater tendential increments are the extractive activity (+5.2%), metallurgy and manufacture of metal product (+2.7%) and the manufacture of rubber and plastic articles (+2.1). Larger flexions are found in the manufacture of chemical products (-6.6%), textiles, clothing, leather and accessories (-5.0%) and in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (-4.6%).

“In October, the seasonal index of industrial production decreases compared to September. The decline is spread to the main groupings of industries, excluding energy. The average performance of the last three months is also negative – Istat comments. On an annual basis, the correct index for calendar effects is also down. With the exception of intermediate goods, all major sectors of activity show reductions compared to the previous year.”.
