ROMA (ITALPRESS) – In February, according to Istat’s definitive data, the national consumer price index for the entire community (NIC), gross of tobacco, recorded a change of +0.7% on a monthly basis and +1.5% on an annual basis (from +1.0% of January); the preliminary estimate was +1.6%. The acceleration of inflation is mainly due to the trend of price trends in transport services (from +0.7% to +2.9%), recreational, cultural services and for the care of the person (from +3.0% to +4.9%) and unworked food (from +2.5% to +3.7%); slow the prices of processed food (from +1.9% to +1.4%) and increase the decline of those of energy9, regulated (from -11.6%).
In February, the underlying inflation, net of fresh energy and food, highlights a lift (from +1.7% to +2.4%), as well as that net of only energy goods (from +1.9% to +2.5%). In February the prices of goods show a slight decrease on an annual basis (-0.2%, as in January), while the prices of services increase their growth rate (from +2.5% to +3.6%). The differential between the service sector and that of goods, therefore, increases, passing from +2.7 percentage points to +3.8 p.p… Food prices, for the care of the house and the person accelerate just (from +1.9% to +2.0%), while those of high-frequency products remain stable (to +1.9%). The change in the general index mainly affected the increase in tobacco prices (+3.3%), recreational, cultural services and for the care of the person (+2.1%), transport services (+1.9%), unworked food (+1.2%), non-regulated energy and housing services (+0.4% for both).
The effects of these increases were only partly offset by the decrease in the prices of regulated energy (-1.5%) and processed food (-0.5%). Inflation acquired for 2026 is +1.1% for both the general index and the underlying component. The harmonised consumer price index (IPCA) recorded a change of +0.5% on a monthly basis and +1.5% on an annual basis (from +1.0% of the previous month); the preliminary estimate was +1.6%. ‘National consumer price index for households of workers and employees (FOI), net of tobacco, recorded a change of conjuncture equal to +0.5% and a trend of +1.1%.
