Industrial production increases in April: +1.3% per year

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – In April 2026 Istat estimates that the seasonal index of industrial production increases by 0.5% compared to March. On average in February-April there was an increase in production by 0.2% compared to the previous three months. The index recorded an increase on a monthly basis for instrumental goods (+1.0%) and intermediate goods (+0.8%); while bending for consumer goods (-0.1%) and energy (-0.2%).

Net of the calendar effects, in April 2026 the general index increases on an annual basis of 1.3% (the calendar working days were 21 against 20 April 2025). Increased capital goods (+6.4%) and with less intensity intermediate goods (+1.8%); negative changes are observed, instead, for energy (-2.7%) and consumer goods (-4.1%).

The sectors of economic activity that record the higher tendencies are the manufacture of means of transport (+17.8%), the production of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (+7.9%) and the manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c. (+6.1%).

The widest thrusts are found in the textile, clothing, leather and accessories industries (-8.9%), other manufacturing industries, repair and installation of machinery and equipment (-6.7%) and in the wood, paper and printing industry (-4.4%).

“In April, for the third consecutive month, there was a conjunctural increase in the seasonal index of industrial production – comments Istat –, driven by the positive dynamics of intermediate and instrumental goods. As a result, the average of the quarter of February-April compared to the previous three months. In April, even in tendential terms and net of calendar effects, both the general index and those relating to intermediate and instrumental goods show an increase, particularly wide for the latter.”.
