ROMA (ITALPRESS) – In September, according to Istat data, retail sales record, compared to the previous month, a decrease in both value and volume (-0.5% for both). The decline concerns both food (-0.4% in value and -0.5% in volume), and non-food (-0.5% in value and -0.6% in volume). In the third quarter, in conjunctural terms, retail sales are slightly increased in value (+0.1%) and decrease in volume (-0.4%). Variations of similar sign are found both for the sales of food (+0.1% in value and -0.9% in volume) and for those of non-food goods (+0.1% in value and -0.1% in volume). In September 2025, retail sales recorded a positive change of 0.5% in value and a decrease of 1.4% in volume.
Sales of foodstuffs increase in value (+1.5%) and fall in volume (-1.8%), while those of non-food goods are in decrease both in value and in volume (respectively -0.4% and -1.1%). With regard to non-food goods, heterogeneous tendencies are recorded between the various groups of products. The greatest increase is the perfumery products, care of the person (+4.0%) while the most consistent calis are observed for footwear, leather and travel articles (-5.7%) and Clothing and furskins (-5.2%). Compared to September 2024, the value of retail sales is increasing due to the large distribution (+0.4%), sales outside stores (+1.9%) and electronic commerce (+7.3%), while a decline for businesses operating on small surfaces (-0.4%).
