ROMA (ITALPRESS) – In October 2025 the number of employees, equal to 24 million 208 thousand, is growing compared to the previous month. The increase involves both employees – permanent (16 million 468 thousand) and at term (2 million 514 thousand) – and the autonomous (5 million 227 thousand). It makes Istat known. In October, on a monthly basis, employment growth is associated with the fall in unemployment and the substantial stability of the inactive. The increase in employment (+0.3%, equal to +75 thousand units) involves men, women, employees, self-employed persons and all age groups with the exception of the 25-34 years that are decreasing. The employment rate rises to 62.7% (+0.1 points). The decrease in people seeking work (-3.7%, equal to -59 thousand units) concerns men, women and all age groups. The unemployment rate falls to 6.0% (-0.2 points), the youth rate to 19.8% (- 1.9 points). The substantial stability of the inactives between 15 and 64 years, which affects both genera, is a synthesis of the growth between 15-34 years and the decrease between those who are at least 35 years old. The inactivity rate is unchanged at 33.2%.
Compared to the quarter of August-October 2025 with the previous one (May-July) there is substantial stability in the number of employees. Compared to the previous quarter, people in search of work decrease (-4.4%, equal to -71 thousand units) and increase the inactives of 15-64 years (+0.5%, equal to +61 thousand units). Also in October 2025, the number of employees exceeds that of October 2024 of 0.9% (+224 thousand units); the increase concerns men, women and those who are at least 50 years old, in the face of the decrease in other age groups. The employment rate, in one year, rises by 0.4 percentage points. Compared to October 2024, both the number of people looking for work (-2.2%, equal to -34 thousand units) and that of the inactive between 15 and 64 years (-1.4%, equal to -171 thousand units). On a monthly basis, the employment rate rises to 62.7%, that of unemployment falls to 6.0% and the rate of inactivity is stable to 33.2%.
