ROMA (ITALPRESS) – In October 2025, according to preliminary estimates, inflation slows down significantly, falling to +1.2% (just below the end value 2024). The deceleration affected by the marked reduction of the rate of growth of prices of unworked food (+1.9% from +4.8%) and the decrease of those of regulated energy (-0.8% from +13.9% to September). In slowing down the annual growth of the prices of the “expenditure cart” (+2.3% from +3.1%), while the underlying inflation remains unchanged (at +2.0%). The rate of inflation acquired in October, calculated on the basis of provisional data, is at +1.6%. This is what emerges from the Istat survey on consumer prices.
In particular, according to the preliminary estimates, in October 2025 the national index of consumer prices for the whole community (NIC), to the gross of the tobaccos, evidences a variation of -0.3% on a monthly basis and +1.2% on an annual basis (from +1.6% in the previous month). The sensitive deceleration of the inflation rate is mainly due to the marked slowdown on a tendential basis of the prices of regulated energy (from +13.9% to -0.8%), of unworked food (from +4.8% to +1.9%) and, to a lesser extent, of those of the Transport Services (from +2.4% to +2.0%). These effects are only partially offset by the acceleration of the prices of recreational, cultural and personal care services (from +3.1% to +3.3%).
In October the “bottom inflation”, net of fresh energy and food, remains unchanged (at +2.0%) and that net of only energy goods slows (from +2.1% to +2.0%). The tendential growth of goods prices is reduced (from +0.6% to +0.2%) and that of services remains stable (to +2.6%). Therefore, the inflation differential between the service sector and that of the goods increases, rising to +2.4 percentage points (from +2.0 of the previous month).
The prices of food goods, for the care of the house and the person decelerano (from +3.1% to +2.3%), as well as those of the products with high frequency of purchase (from +2.6% to +2.3%). The negative economic change of the general index reflects the decrease in the prices of regulated energy (- 6.7%), recreational, cultural services and for the care of the person (-1.2%), unregulated energy (-0.8%), durable goods, communications services and transport related services (-0.3% all and three), partially attenuated by the growth of the prices of processed food (+0.3%). Inflation acquired for 2025 is +1.6% for the general index and +2.0% for the underlying component. According to the preliminary estimates, the harmonised consumer price index (IPCA) recorded a change of -0.2% on a monthly basis and +1.3% on an annual basis (from +1.8% of the previous month)
