ROMA (ITALPRESS) – In June 2026 Istat estimates that the seasonal index of industrial production decreased by 1.0% compared to May. In the average of the second trimester there is an increase of the level of production of 0.4% regarding the first trimester 2026. The monthly seasonal index grows on a conjunctural basis only for energy (+0.8%), while it decreases for consumer goods (-0.7%), intermediate goods (-0.9%) and capital goods (- 2.1%). Net of the calendar effects, in June 2026 the general index decreases in tendential terms by 0.6% (the calendar working days were 21 against 20 June 2025). They show a decrease in consumer goods (-3.2%) and intermediate goods (-1.2%). Conversely, there is a tendency for capital goods (+0.6%) and, with greater intensity, for energy (+1.7%).
The sectors of economic activity that record the higher tendential increments are the manufacture of computers, electronic and optical products, electromedical equipment, measuring devices and watches (+4.5%), the manufacture of means of transport (+3.2%) and the supply of electricity, gas, steam and air (+2.3%). The main thrusts are observed in the textile, clothing, leather and accessories industries (- 7.1%), in other manufacturing industries, repair and installation of machines and equipment (- 3.6%) and in the manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c. (-2.3%).
“In June the seasonal index of industrial production recorded a decline compared to May – is the comment of Istat -. The bending is widespread to the main groupings of industries, excluding energy. On the other hand, the overall average of the second quarter was positive (+0.4%). Even in tendential terms production, net of the calendar effects, is in decline”.
“The decline is marked in consumer goods, while energy and instrumental goods record moderate growth. In the first half of the year, total production net of the calendar effects recorded a modest trend growth (+0.5%), with a particularly sustained increase in the manufacture of means of transport”, he concluded.
