In January industrial production fell by 0.6% annually

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – In January Istat estimates that the seasonal index of industrial production decreased by 0.6% compared to December. On average November-January the level of production grew by 0.7% compared to the previous three months. The monthly seasonal index grows on a conjunctural basis only for energy (+4.5%), while it decreases for consumer goods (-0.6%), intermediate goods (-0.8%) and instrumental goods (- 2.2%). Net of the calendar effects, in January the general index decreases in tendential terms by 0.6% (the calendar working days were 20 against 21 January 2025). A trend increase is recorded only for energy (+10.4%).

The remaining compartments, on the other hand, show flexions, with a greater decrease in consumer goods (-3.8%) and less accentuated for intermediate goods (-1.6%) and for instrumental goods (-0.3%). The sectors of economic activity that record the major increases of the trend are the supply of electricity, gas, steam and air (+14.4%), the manufacture of means of transport (+7.1%) and the extractive activity (+3.4%). On the other hand, the most pronounced flexions are observed in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (-12.9%), in the manufacture of chemicals (-7.2%) and in other manufacturing industries (-5.7%).
