Immigration, Tajani” “Our priority is security, jihadist danger should not be underestimated”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “Our priority is internal security. The jihadist danger should not be underestimated.” Thus Vice-Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, in an interview with Corriere della Sera, defends Italy’s decision to extend controls at the internal borders of Schengen, excluding that at the base of choice there are electoral reasons or rivalry with Spanish Premier Pedro Sánchez.

“The extension was decided after a careful examination of the immigration and border security committee – Tajani explains – and the reason is the prevention of terrorism and the contrast to irregular immigration. This is what we care about, not how you think Sánchez”.

The Minister therefore underlines the results of the controls: “During the last month there were 31 refusing measures at maritime and airport borders, of which eight were Moroccans. You were arrested. They are not few.”.

For Tajani, therefore, the extension is necessary even if “it is temporary and is not against someone, but to protect our security”. The vicepremier also claims to have “decreased over 60% of irregular immigration in our country”.
