OMA (ITALPRESS) – The most recent innovations on the contrast of one of the most dangerous cardiac pathologies were presented by Professor Gianfranco Gualdi during the Congress “Rome Heart”, where the professor – one of the highest medical experts in the field – held a report dedicated to the role of imaging techniques in the diagnosis and treatment of tricuspidal failure. This heart disease is manifested when the tricuspid valve does not close properly, causing blood reflux from the right ventricle to the right atrium.
During his intervention, Gualdi has illustrated all the innovations in the use of TC and cardiac magnetic resonance, tools that have taken a fundamental role in the pre-proceural evaluation of patients candidates for repair or valve replacement. These methods have allowed a precise mapping of heart anatomy, the quantification of the severity of the insufficiency and the definition of the parameters necessary for the planning of anuloplasty or the implantation of valve prostheses.
More in detail, RM provides accurate quantification of the severity of valve insufficiency, expansion or secondary dysfunction of the right ventricle, while the TC provides a complete evaluation of valve morphology, outlines relationships with adjacent structures and provides different specific measurements for the device necessary for procedural planning (anulopastic or valve prosthesis).
“The TC and RM – Gualdi has explained – have assumed an increasingly strategic role not only in diagnosis, but also in post-operative management, allowing for early identification of any complications and to optimize the results of the intervention”. With his report, Professor Gualdi offered an updated overview of how new imaging technologies have helped improve the personalization of cardiological treatments and the quality of life of patients.
