Fuels, Urso “Taglio excise 2022 ineffective and too expensive”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “The situation today is very different from that of March 2022, when the Russian invasion of Ukraine made fuel and energy prices stop. The rate of inflation in Italy was already 6.9%, just below the EU average, and the price of fuels was growing significantly, exceeding the threshold of 2.5 euros per litre. The government of that time decided to use the extrajettito dell’Iva that was accumulating to allocate it entirely to a cut of excise duties on fuels, with a total cost for the herb – and therefore for citizens – of approximately one billion euros per month”.

This is what the Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso said at the meeting of the Allerta rapid commission in progress at Mimit. “A measure that proved most ineffective, because it did not stop the inflationary spiral, which reached up to 12.6%, beyond the EU average, in October 2022 when we settled in the government. In addition, as the Upb later found, the benefit concentrated mainly on wealthy classes, as households with higher income are also those with higher fuel consumption,” Urso added.
