First free way to the House to reform on Rome Capital, Meloni “The Pd betrays commitments and refrains”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “Today, in the first reading of the House, the constitutional reform to strengthen the role of Rome Capital and to attribute to the Capitol the legislative powers necessary to deal with matters that touch the life of the Romans closely and the interest of Italy all, because a Capital that works helps the growth of the entire nation. With bitterness and amazement we must record the decision of the Democratic Party to abstain. It is a choice that strikes a lot because, as it is known, the text of the constitutional decree has collected during the parliamentary examination the proposals submitted by the Mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri. Today, however, the Democratic Party decides not to respect the commitments made and to interrupt a fully shared constituent process, and that had so far seen the full involvement of the Capitol and the Lazio Region and that had found maturation in Parliament. It is impossible to accept the invitation of the PD to make shared reforms, if it is the same PD not to vote for a shared reform and that strengthens the institutional role of the Capital, regardless of who rules it today and will rule it tomorrow. Today a constituent process is interrupted, and the leaders of this choice have names and surnames. The PD and Mayor Gualtieri will have to take account of this choice in the face of citizens.” The President of the Council, Giorgia Meloni, declares this.

GUALTIERI “BENE APPROVAZIONE, LAVORARE PER RIFORMA CONDIVISA”

“The approval by the Chamber of Deputies in the first reading of the draft Constitutional Reform Act on Rome Capital is a positive fact that allows the start of the parliamentary process for a very important and long-awaited measure, necessary to equip the Capital of an order, of powers and resources adapted to its role. A broader consensus would be desirable and from this point of view the climate of tension and constant confrontation between parties was not helpful. It is now important that the reform process will continue, which will be defined as soon as possible in a shared way the contents of the ordinary law and the resources necessary to implement the new regulatory framework, and that all are committed to achieving a completion of the reform by the end of the legislature on the basis of a broad parliamentary majority.” The mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri declares it.
