ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “There is no closing plan” of the former Ilva plant in Genoa Cornigliano, “on the contrary: the commissioners have started an extraordinary maintenance program to deliver to the future buyer, by March, operating and safe plants with at least 4 million production capacity.” The extraordinary maintenance “is absolutely necessary and is consequent to the state of total abandonment and decay in which the plants have been left” for which “the commissioners will start in the next days a compensatory action” against ArcelorMittal “for about 5 billion euros”. So the Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, at the question time of the Chamber. “In Genoa nobody will go into integration, the operation of the plant is not in question,” he recalls. “The Government is ready to evaluate the intervention of a public subject to the support of the industrial plan, in full compliance with European law and according to the procedures of competition, in order to ensure the production continuity of the plants” of the former Ilva and “the process of decarbonization”, Urso points out.
“The international competition is in place, the negotiations are difficult because the goal is challenging: the government is working on enabling conditions, in the awareness that the supply and cost of energy is the most critical factor, even in the perspective of the needs connected with the planned decarbonization. The green technology needs the gas: in a context in which the solution of the regasification ship is not practicable, we are working on the conditions for a land supply of gas that can be sustainable economically, at the same time we are preparing the conditions for interventions of new industrialization of the areas free from the activity of the steel, both in Taranto, and in Genoa, in order to favor new additional productive settlements: on this we have already agreed with the local authorities a series of meetings, scheduled in the next few hours”, the minister concluded.
