“Russian aggression against Ukraine has reported the armed conflict in the heart of the continent, calling for a united response to the protection of international law and the principles of freedom and sovereignty. The continuing crisis in the Middle East calls for an ever-increasing commitment to support peace, dialogue and international stability. To these and many other challenges of our time it is illusory to think of responding in the absence of shared tools and policies. It is in the common action of Europe that individual countries can find the expression of their sovereignty to exercise their own strength and influence to the fullest degree. The young generations of Europeans are entrusted with the decisive task of continuing this journey with renewed momentum, so that Europe continues to be an authentic and exemplary space of peace, freedom and opportunity, the protagonist in the construction of a fair and united international order. The ideals of the European project advance in the commitment of young people. In renewing the most fervent wish for this common festival of the whole of Europe, I call it a moment of reflection and responsibility for the construction of an authentically shared destiny,” he said.
