ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Following the reports received through international circuits related to the Andes Hantavirus Focolare connected to the MV Hondius ship, the Ministry of Health has activated the procedures for risk assessment, surveillance and health coordination, in line with national and international protocols. Internationally shared assessments by the WHO (World Health Organization) and the ECDC (European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control) currently indicate a low risk for the general population worldwide and very low in Europe.
In Italy, four people arrived with the KLM flight in connection with Rome on which the woman was admitted to Johannesburg and deceased for a few minutes. The addresses of the four passengers were acquired. The Ministry of Health then transmitted the information to the Regions of competence (Calabria, Campania, Tuscany, Veneto) for the activation of the procedures of active surveillance, in the principle of maximum caution. The company Oceanwide Expeditions, moreover, has updated, with its own communication, the picture regarding the passengers of the ship MV Hondius. On the ship, from May 6, there is also an Italian doctor of the ECDC health care staff, climbed on board to support emergency care activities. The Ministry of Health, together with the other Health Administrations and Authorities involved, continues to ensure full coordination and application of the planned surveillance measures.
