ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The European Commissioner for Animal Health and Wellness, Olivér Vßrhelyi, visited this morning the Policlinico Universitario A. Gemelli IRCCS, accompanied by the MEP Ignazio Marino, Coordinator of the European Parliament Health Commission, along with its staff. To welcome him the Rector of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart Elena Beccalli, the President of the Fondazione Policlinico Gemelli IRCCS Daniele Franco, the Director General Daniele Piacentini, the Scientific Director Antonio Gasbarrini and the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery Alessandro Sgambato. “The visit – we read in a note – was an important opportunity to discuss the main issues of the European health agenda: from health prevention actions, to review medical regulations, to the EU strategy for cardiovascular diseases, to the issue of critical medicines, in the context of the broader revision of pharmaceutical legislation; moreover the comparison has developed on digital health and the use of health data. Questions affecting the capacity of EU health systems to ensure effective, accessible and innovative care. During the meeting, the role of the Policlinico Gemelli was reiterated as a national and international clinical and scientific hub and its model that – like IRCCS and teaching national reference – integrates assistance of high complexity, research and training”.

During the meeting with the EU Commissioner, the discussion also focused on the illustration of some excellence of the Gemelli, including the CEMAD (Digital Apparatus Disease Center), the Comprehensive Cancer Center; finally, presented one of the most important projects provided by the Strategic Plan 2026-2029 as the CUORE Center – Pope Francis. This is how Commissioner Vßrhelyi offered a concrete insight into innovation in progress: advanced technologies, multidisciplinary approach and integration between research and care in the primary interest of patients. The visit to the Gemini, which has taken part a wide and qualified representation of the hospital community, fits precisely in this perspective and is the confirmation of the strategic value of the dialogue between European institutions and large hospitals to address the challenges of contemporary health and promote innovation, quality of care, fair access to the therapies and sustainability of health systems.
