BOLOGNA (ITALPRESS) – The Emilia-Romagna Region consolidates and strengthens the network of mental health, continuing to invest on personalized paths of care, rehabilitation and social inclusion: for 2026, we read in a note, “the commitment of 40 million euros is maintained, an investment that confirms mental health as one of the priorities of regional health policies. The Junta approved the distribution of resources of the Mental Health Actual Plan and overcoming former psychiatric hospitals for the current year.”.
Funds that support a model of takeover that integrates health, social and territorial services, putting the person and his life project at the centre, with particular attention to autonomy, inclusion in the community and welfare continuity. The largest share of funding, amounting to €33.7 million, is allocated to the Fund for possible autonomy – Mental health, which finances social-health assistance for people followed by mental health centres, favouring customized rehabilitation projects carried out through the Health Budget, a tool that allows you to build individualised paths capable of enhancing work, living and social participation. The Fund also supports interventions aimed at people with autistic spectrum disorder and to those coming from former psychiatric hospitals, former judicial psychiatric hospitals and Rems, promoting alternative paths to institutionalization.
300 thousand euros are dedicated to the Rems of Reggio Emilia and 150 thousand each to the structures for the offenders of Parma and Bologna. “In investing in mental health means investing in the quality of life of people and in the cohesion of our communities – explains the president of the Region, Michele de Pascale, and the regional Councillor for Health Policies, Massimo Fabi –. It is a precise choice, which qualifies our public health service and confirms Emilia-Romagna as one of the most committed Italian regions on this side. We do this with conviction, because mental health is not a separate sector, but an essential component of the right to health. For this reason – President and Councillor continue – we continue to allocate important resources to strengthen territorial services, support ever more personalized care paths and promote autonomy, inclusion and dignity of people. It is a responsibility that the Region continues to assume with determination, because no one must feel only in the face of fragility. But greater contribution and involvement by the national government is needed, the territories need more tools to cope with what is now an emergency throughout the country.”.
In addition to the Fund for Autonomy, the Region finances a number of specialist programs that strengthen the mental health network throughout the lifetime: 820 thousand euros for the part dedicated to nutrition and nutrition disorders and to support residential assistance for this type of patients for the year 2026 in the accredited structures ‘In Volo’ of Parma and ‘Residenza Gruber’ of Bologna; 400 thousand euros for the regional program on psychotic debuts, aimed at the systematic application in mental health centers of the regional recommendations for the promotion of health and well-being in people at psychotics; 565 thousand euros for the strengthening of the diagnosis and the taking into account the specific problems of learning: EUR 4.2 million for the Regional Autism Programme (children, adolescents and adults); 280 thousand euros for interventions aimed at people with intellectual disabilities.
