Domestic Violence, at the Italian Consulate of New York a meeting dedicated to prevention

On 19 October, at the Consulate General of Italy in New York, “Breaking the Script of the Life We Were Told to Accept”, an event dedicated to raising awareness and prevention of domestic violence, organized by Comites in collaboration with Giada Bardelli, aka Giada Joys, with Ornella Fado, Vice President of Comites, as host.

The evening brought together professionals and experts to deepen various aspects of domestic violence: from the recognition of psychological and emotional violence to coercive control, from the psychological impact to legal aspects, to the difficulties related to the exit from an abusive relationship and the role of family, friends and communities in supporting those who live it.

The initiative also connects to the daily work of awareness raising that Giada Bardelli carries out on social media through the Giada Joys project, with content dedicated to the recognition of signs of abuse and understanding of the dynamics of abusive relationships.

During the event, a collection of first-needed assets was promoted to NMIC – Northern Manhattan Improvement Corporation, a non-profit organization offering support and services to people facing domestic violence in New York.

The meeting reaffirmed the importance of collaboration between institutions, professionals and communities to promote awareness, prevention and support.
