ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “That of Bologna is a painful affair that imposes first of all respect for the deceased person and his family members. That is why I think it is necessary to wait for the outcome of the investigations. The judiciary is working and will have all the collaboration of the institutions. The Bologna Questura has already made available every useful element, including the images of the bodycam, to try again the full transparency with which it is acting”. Thus the Interior Minister, Matteo Piantedosi, in an interview with the Messenger.
“Agents intervened on citizen reporting, to manage a particularly critical situation. In every intervention the priority always remains the protection of the life and safety of all present, including that of those who are in a strong state of alteration. It will be the verifications to accurately reconstruct the dynamics of the facts, and it is correct to wait for those outcomes. It saddens me to see how, once again, some try to bend what happened against the forces of the order, feeding prejudicial hostility towards those who wear the uniform. They are the same people who, on the one hand, accuse the government of not doing enough to guarantee security and to employ insufficiently the police forces; on the other, when those same forces intervene, systematically contest the operation.”.
According to the minister, “as every citizen has the right to the presumption of innocence, the same principle must apply to those who wear the uniform. To prove the complexity of their work, just mention a few numbers: the wounded among the Police Forces, including the local police, increased by 62% in this first half of the year. It doesn’t seem like police numbers,” he says. Is it not that you go towards a “Ice model” also for the Italian police? “No one is above the law in Italy. No criminal shield, not even the police. That, however, enjoy an extensive trust in Italy and abroad. To support the opposite is a becera instrumentalization of a tragedy like this,” he explains.
“I believe that the most serious way of honoring the truth is to let the investigations take their course. It should be said that agents intervened in a very difficult context, called by the same residents of the neighborhood for an aggressive and escandescence subject, who also hit the operators. In many other cases, such situations have jeopardized the safety of people,” the minister concludes.
