ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “On the occasion of the 161° Anniversary of the establishment of the Corps of the Harbour offices – Guard Costiera, I wish to address to all the staff, in service and on leave, the expression of the gratitude of the Italian people for their work rendered with high professionalism and spirit of sacrifice. In this eighteenth year since the founding of the Italian Republic, I pay tribute to the memory of those who have lost their lives in fulfilling their duty while I address a deferential greeting to the Navy War Flag and the Naval Forces, as well as to the Stendardo of the Naval Units of the Coast Guard.” Thus the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in a message sent to the General Commander of the Corps of the Harbour offices – Guardia Costiera, Sergio Liardo.
“The Harbour offices perform a multiplicity of functions of primary importance at the service of the Country. From the protection of human life at sea to the safety of navigation, from the protection of the marine environment to the supervision of marine and harbour activities, the Body represents a precious point of guarantee and reference for the community”.
“The most recent operational activities, carried out to protect safety at sea, coasts and inland waters, as well as the decisive contribution in emergency situations, testify to the ability of the Body to effectively address contemporary challenges, in synergy with the Armed Forces and the Police Forces,” continues Mattarella. “On this feast day, I am grateful to send to all members of the Body and their families the most fervent wish. Live the Corps of the Harbour offices – Coast Guard! He lives the Republic!”, the president concludes.
