Crosetto “The presence of our military in Saudi Arabia is not a new mission”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “The Italian presence in the area rests on a clear legal framework, on a parliamentary path that was totally transparent. It is evident that the presence of our military in Saudi Arabia is not a new mission, we are talking about a total force of 500 soldiers.” This was said by the Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, during the hearing of foreign commissions and defense of Chamber and Senate, on the attack at the base of Ta’if and on the presence of Italian soldiers in Saudi Arabia.

“The parliament has always been, I repeat always, adequately involved in the decision to reposition, within the organizational perimeter, the existing capacities – said Crosetto -. We are facing the remodulation of military capacity.”.

“To send our soldiers to Saudi Arabia was the option considered more appropriate on the technical-operational level of the Greater State of Defense, secondly because, this partner country has asked and continues to ask for our help to defend itself against possible attacks. Saudi Arabia is a fundamental country to endure the possibility of peace in the Middle East – added Crosetto – and, more generally, it is one of the interlocutors with whom we have long started forms of support and dialogue”.

The Minister of Defense then recalled that “it is one of the largest oil producers. Peace, moreover, requires constant presence, availability and cooperation”
